python-mpltoolkits.basemap software package provides matplotlib toolkit to plot on map projections, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install python-mpltoolkits.basemap
python-mpltoolkits.basemap is installed in your system.
Make ensure the python-mpltoolkits.basemap package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep python-mpltoolkits.basemap *
You will get with python-mpltoolkits.basemap package name, version, architecture and description in a table
